Not only did the 3 little pigs get to stay in a straw house. This unique luxury farm stay is just over 2 hrs from Brisbane, & in the middle of so many things to see & do. Stanthorpe is officially the "coolest" place in Queensland with lower temps, less humidity & cool nights making it the perfect place to escape.
Relax, reconnect & refresh.
Explore the farm at your leisure. Meet new friends.
Eggs - including green eggs!!
Kids (big and small) can feed and brush the animals and collect eggs which we can turn into something very special for you next breakfast.
Come here fishy fishy!!
Fish to your hearts content at the Straw House Farm. Our huge dam is stocked full of loads of Silver Perch.
THE STRAW HOUSE FARM is a unique style of accommodation 12 minutes from Stanthorpe. The cottages are made of straw bales and stucco making them both warm in winter, cool in summer and insulated from the outside world. You can either stay in a cottage, our roomier studio cottage or our luxury Tiny House. The Straw House Farm BNB is set on 22 acres which you are welcome to explore. Take a walk around the farm, take a bottle of wine, a cheese platter and something to sizzle to the fire pit or on the BBQ and make a night of it. Visit the chickens, hang out with our two big boys, highland cows Aklan and Bahookie, and their many cow friends. If you have a little thing for donkeys you will not be disappointed when you meet (kiss cuddle, scratch and feed) Siobhan and Mirrabelle. There is lots of room to roam and to relax. Kids and dogs are very welcome at the Straw House and undercover parking is available. You can also fish in the dam where there are lots of big ones to catch and release. BYO rods.
Cottages have a queen size bed and a fold down sofa bed great for an adult or little kids. The bedding is Sheridan, the tea selection is T2, and your own Nespresso machine awaits. This is not your average bed & breakfast. More details on accommodation types below.
Make a new best friend with one of our beautiful ALPACA boys Pablo, Edwardo, Diego, Nigel, Cotton and Calico, Sammy and baby Snook. Cuteness overload warning. You are welcome to help out or just hang out with them during your stay. We now have 32 gorgeous goats (the ones that don't eat plants or washing !!). Some of their names are Pippin, Fancy Pants, Screaming Sally, Sue, and Mable. The teenagers George, Gerry, Charlie, Chelsea, Rafael, Lucy, Saturday and Sunday Rose could not be sweeter and love to be scratched, brushed, and cuddled. The little guys Florence Jane, William, Julietta, Toby, Tommy & Taluullah are super cute, super friendly and a laugh a minute. Add to this lot, born in November 2023 is Joseph, Stella. Monty, Floyd, twins Coco & Chanel and triplets Jett, Jasper and Johnny.
We are just a few minutes from not only some of the region’s best wineries, but also a stones throw from the Maze, the Christmas Farm, Stanthorpe Cheese and Sutton’s Juice Factory, apple pies like no other. A must is a visit to one of the regions national parks Girraween, Bald Rock and Sundowner, or fish, paddle or swim in Quart Pot Creek, a stunning spot to visit, picnic or walk.
WOTIF HAS NAMED STANTHORPE AS QUEENSLAND'S NUMBER ONE DESTINATION AND AUSTRALIA'S NUMBER 3 FOR 2024 AND WE'D LOVE TO SHOW YOU WHY.
NEW TO STANTHORPE
We can help you plan your stay. We have tried and tested almost all of the 50 plus cellar doors (someone had to do it), walked every path, eaten absolutely everywhere and everything and our past guests have told us all about their experiences, so we can certainly help you plan your stay. There really is so much to see and do in Queensland's top spot.
NOT SURE WHEN TO VISIT
ANY TIME OF THE YEAR IS A GREAT TIME TO VISIT.
Stanthorpe is the "coolest" place in Queensland, winters are cold but the days are usually spectacular. Autumn and Spring are chilly at night usually with sunny bright days. The Summers are wonderful warm but with really low humidity and cool nights. It's not uncommon to put the heating on and sip a little something around an outdoor fire while wearing longs and some woollies in the summer.
As a guide the daytime temps are on average about 7 degrees lower than Brisbane and the coast and the nights are up to 12 degrees cooler. The humidity is sooooo much lower which makes for a fresh cool start to every day.
This is not your average country town. Come and let us show you why.
Relax, reconnect and enjoy the cozy feel of a real straw bale cottage.
Comfort is guaranteed. Sheridan towels and linen are just the start.
Cottages are stocked with Nespresso coffee machines and a range of beautiful teas. Cottage prices can also INCLUDE A BIG DELICIOUS BREAKFAST.
Cozy and Cute and beautifully appointed.
Sheridan sheets and a fabulous comfy bed,
Room for everyone. Popular with kids are our custom made triple bunks. The bottom one is on the floor so perfect for very little visitors.
The full kitchen (shown in part only) means you can self cater and have a cheap night in if you choose.
Enjoy a meal or enjoy a glass of local wine, while watching the Highland coos, goats and alpacas play.
Indoor cozy fire and you have a fire pit for outside "real fires".
Made by us from a 20 tonne grain container. The tiny house is a real hit.
This luxury style accommodation (with ensuite) is for 2 adults only and comes with all the trimmings, brand new Sheridan linen and towels, Sheridan bathrobes, luxury tea (T2) and coffee (Nespresso) etc.
While tiny houses are super popular they are rarely offered as holiday accommodation. We believe ours to be the first in the region and the first in Australia where you can "sleep" with the animals. It's like an animal safari but with hairy cooos, alpacas, miniature goats and Scottish Belted galloways, who are all very happy to get up close and personal!!
Cost is from $395 per night (2 night minimum) and that of course includes the famous big Straw House Breakfast and unlimited time with the animals.
There is lots of room in the kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee machine & lots of lovely bits and pieces for you to use and enjoy.
Sit on your private deck or the breakfast (or wine) bar & watch the world go by. Enjoy your big breakfast or enjoy a glass of local wine, while the animals pass on by.
Not breakfast eaters? The cottages & Tiny House now have breakfast as optional. Let us know when you book which you prefer.
Big and small groups are catered for. We accommodate couples, families, friends and groups. Perfect for a birthday or family celebration.
Children are very welcome. There is lots for them to do and they are welcome to explore the Straw House Farm including animal feeding, petting, fishing (BYO rods), farm tours, outdoor games and marshmallow toasting and smores making at the fire pit. Well behaved dogs are welcome too in the cottages. There is lots of room for them to run and explore.
Rates are FROM $ 395 per night prices including unlimited time on the farm with the animals !! A minimum of 2 nights applies. A minimum of 3 night applies on public holidays.
Check in is from 3:00 PM and check out by 10:00 AM. Let's know in advance if different times suit you better and we will accomodate you if we can.
For direct bookings refunds do not apply but the good news is you can change the date of your stay within 10 days before your scheduled visit (small fee applies). Changes don't apply with 10 days or your scheduled visit or during your stay unless we can rebook your accommodation.

10/10 would stay again and recommend to others. Anna is friendly, accommodating and an all around great host. The tiny home is unique and plenty spacious enough for two people to stay. The animals on the property are a wonderful highlight, the goats are so friendly enjoying lots of pats. And oh my gosh the food! Anna & Tony provided outstanding breakfasts each morning, super delish, five stars.

"A quick two night getaway at the Straw House felt like a restorative two week vacation. They were wonderful hosts that made us feel so welcome and comfortable the entire time. The farm animals and scenery are even better than photos or words can describe, and the breakfast supplied was delicious. We couldn’t recommend a better place for a country getaway! "

Best, best, best! Attention to detail in the accommodation was incredible, animals were delightful and hosts were the BEST ever. Food was beyond great.
Donna stayed in December 2022 (booked direct)
We’ll be back! Not your ordinary farm stay, you even get a fully cooked breakfast with fresh farm eggs, and if you choose a lovely kitty cat might stay overnight in your room to keep your feet warm. So many animals that are all great with kids. And the kids love to help with the morning feeds. There’s also a wonderful fire pit with bbq and all the extras you need to cook a meal. Just bring your own sausages! They really provide everything you could want, from tea and coffee to decent brand shampoo and conditioner. It was really interesting and cosy to stay in an actual straw house. We all highly recommend this beautiful BnB/farm stay.

Where do we start? We love this place. This is our third visit. We come back for the breakfasts (better than any cafe in Brisbane), the animals (so interactive and so up close and personal), and the hosts, we just get looked after so well. Thanks once again!!

Two weeks ago we have a much anticipated trip to the NT to see the night skies. We were told they were some of the best in the country. What we didn't know was that the night skies are better at the Straw House Farm in Stanthorpe!! They were incredible. Everything about our stay was perfect. The attention to every detail by the hosts was beyond great. We have booked to come again.
Andrea Stayed December 21 (booked through Airbnb)
Amazing hospitality! Very yummy breakfast both mornings. Beautiful setting and welcoming accommodation. Bed was super comfy. We were travelling with our 3 year old and Anna put out toys for her, which was such a lovely touch. We also had our dog with us and was great to have a space where he could run around. It was great having all the farm animals to say hello to, especially the baby goats!

This place was brilliant - never stayed anywhere with so much attention to detail. I had never met a goat before and I could not stay away. They are magnificent. Thanks for everything a great bucket list experience and such good value for what we received. We have booked in to visit again.

Everything about the Straw House Farm Bed and Breakfast was 5 star!! The accommodation is beautiful and so carefully fitted out. The property is gorgeous. We spent a night cooking at the fire pit under the stars and it was incredible. The animals are wonderful we rushed "home" every night to help put them to bed. The breakfasts were equal to or better than any restaurant we've ever been to.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cosy warm straw cottage, your delightful furry family, your time and company around the fire pit, and your scrumptious breakfasts! We're always grateful being able to come back to the cottage and be warm, enjoy beautiful coffee's, tea and milo! We’ve stayed at your Straw House in summer and now winter! Next trip we'll make a night of it around the fire pit too, winter or summer. By the way, those brownies were amazing and just when we thought nothing would top it, came the best banana bread ever! We packed the rest of it for the road trip😋 Looking forward to coming back! Miss you already. You’re like a family we keep wanting to go back to!
Jennifer and Geoff stayed in July 21 (Booked Direct).
We had a lovely 3 nights in the Tiny House. The bed was comfortable, the food was delicious and our room was snug and warm. Waking up and enjoying breakfast on the deck in the sun was just so relaxing and lovely. And…..the entertainment: watching the goats jump and play, being visited by excited happy puppy dogs and watching the cows and alpacas begin their daily march around the paddock made our stay at The Straw House perfect. Thanks for having us 😌
Jenny and Greg stayed in May 21 (booked direct) We listened to some friends talk of a recent stay at Stanthorpe, decided it sounded great and we booked for the May long weekend.
Nothing could have prepared us for how delightful our stay was at The Straw House!
From the warm and genuine welcome, farm tour and perfectly appointed cottage to the riotously funny and quirky farm critters, we were simply smitten.
The personal touches: home made goodies on arrival, delicious breakfasts cooked by Anna and Tony, and the very real conversations left us knowing we would return.
We cannot recommend The Straw House highly enough!
Kayleigh & Brent staying in the Tiny House in May (booked direct)
The Tiny House was the most perfect weekend for us. The service was fantastic and it had everything we needed, plus so much more! The big breakfasts were delicious and so were the freshly baked brownies they’d cooked for us on arrival. The best part was all of the animals, we loved sitting on the deck watching them.
We’ll be recommending the Straw House to all of our friends and family.

Straw House BnB is a property we'll definitely return to. We found the cottage to be comfortable, cool and cosy. It offers tranquil surroundings and we had fun with the highland cattle, alpacas, goats and chooks. We also cycled in the orchard and on nearby bike tracks. Their home cooked breakfasts are absolutely delicious! Thank you!
Jennifer stayed in December 2020 (booked direct)
The accommodation was delightful. A beautiful room amongst a beautiful setting. Anna and Tony were wonderful hosts and so kind. On arrival, we were shown to our room and then around the farm where we were able to feed and visit the cattle, alpacas, goats and chickens as we please.
It is hard to put into words but this B&B offered more than cute accommodation. The rooms were filled with love and the farm and animals were in a happy place. This gave our entire stay the most fulfilling feeling. This was a true country escape, where our minds could relax and we were made to feel like we were welcome and at home.
And as a side note, the breakfasts provided were all homemade and absolutely delicious. Will definitely be visiting again.

Thank you so much for hosting us at The Straw House. You have done such a great job with the property and the beautiful animals. We can't compliment you highly enough on the food -- it was all amazing! We look forward to seeing you again soon (and recommending to friends in the meantime).

We had a wonderful stay with our two pups at the straw house cottage. A beautiful farm, friendly animals, gorgeous cottage that is immaculately presented with beautiful gardens and complete with big comfy bed and coffee machine!
Highlights were definitely the home baked treats on arrival and breakfast each day too - delicious, filling and varied home cooked meals! A surprise each day to wake up to. For a cosy night in Anna & Tony can also provide a 2-course dinner. Which we topped off with star gazing and roasting marshmallows around the outdoor fire.

Thoughtful amenities · Spacious. Quiet rooms.
Connie stayed in September 2020 (booked direct) What a wonderful weekend at The Straw House B&B! This was recommended to us and we were so happy with the experience, we will certainly be back. Anna and Tony, along with the ‘family’ are most welcoming, the food is amazing, the cottages perfect. We used this as our base for cycling around the area and it worked so well. See you again soon 😃
Autumn stayed in August 2020 (booked via this website) Wow!!!! Special place yes, but more importantly exceptionally very special hosts Anna and Tony. Along with all their beautiful fur babies the Straw Houses felt like coming home. The best breakfast on both days, scrumptious!!!!! Terri Dempsey-Ceh stayed in July 2020 (booked direct) We have just arrived home from a sensational 4 days staying out at The Straw House. Anna and Tony were fantastic hosts, very accommodating, hospitable and there to help with all of our needs. We will be back to spend more time at this well located property, the rooms were cosy, especially with the Sheridan sheets and bath towels, the bathrooms were filled with beautiful Washpool products and the breakfasts each morning were next level tasty! We had the pleasure of having an open fire in the big straw house and also enjoyed the company of both Anna and Tony as we all chatted and enjoy a locally made vino 🍷
And, Hugo Blonde, Stanley Brown the two beautiful house dogs were absolutely adorable and so well behaved 🙌 We also feed the hairy cows, which I have wanted to do for along time. We made some great memories out here with our close friends and fantastic hospitality from Anna and Tony 🙌
Tim stayed in July 2020 (Booking.com) “The host Anna was very accommodating and friendly. The straw house was very warm at night with no heating required after you go to bed. The bed was comfy and being vegan, were surprised by the homemade vegan cookies on arrival. The host also made us a vegan breakfast!! We got to experience patting and feeding the highland cows that live on the property and pat the owners 2 labs! The property is located approx. 10 mins from Stanthorpe town centre and about a 2.5 hour drive from Brisbane. There was plenty to do around the area also!”
Ingrid stayed in the Big Straw House in June 2020 (Facebook) What a delightful time we all had! Thank you Anna and Tony for your embracing welcome to not only Steve and I, but also my daughter and 14 month old granddaughter. I think our puppies had the best time! Whisky and Soda our labs loved the space, company of Hugo and Stanley, and your accommodation - particularly the fireplace! Breakfast was spectacular! Dinner was superb! Above all you generously recognised Steve's birthday weekend with a beautiful personal touch.
Merryn stayed in June 2020 (Tripadvisor) “Perfect gateway to the Granite Belt
We have just returned from a wonderful weekend away in Stanthorpe and surrounds, staying at The Straw House B&B. Anna and Tony could not have been more wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they were more than friendly and helpful and happy to chat. Each morning a delicious hot, home cooked breakfast was delivered to the room. The property was perfect for a wander at any time of the day or afternoon, which meant we spotted birds, rabbits and the gorgeous highland cattle, that are hand fed every afternoon with an invitation to join in. The accommodation is at the gateway to the granite belt and literally around the corner from award winning wineries and Sam's the fruit and vegetable shop. We decided to drive back to Warwick on the Old Stanthorpe Rd, which had no traffic and really lent itself to the 'Sunday country drive'. We had the most wonderful weekend away in the straw cottage, it was warm and welcoming and comfortable, with beautiful quilts and a homely feel, with the welcome treat of chocolate brownies and an eclectic range of reading materials if you came empty handed. I wish we had more time to explore the beautiful Granite Belt region, but no doubt we will be back, and we know where to stay.
Rachel stayed in June 2020 (Airbnb) “Charming private cottage-style studio bnb. You share a very thick wall so would never know others were there unless you wanted to. Anna and Tony are friendly and down to earth with a lovely property and they are good cooks! Hot breakfast is served to your cottage studio on a tray so great for people like us who prefer privacy on a couple's weekend away. Location is near the main highway but cottage walls are very thick and noise will not disturb you. Heating is via an electric fireplace but Anna and Tony are happy to light the outdoor fire pit if real flames are a must.
Cindy stayed in May 2020 (Booking.com) “Wonderful accommodating hosts. The grounds and orchard are lovely for an afternoon walk and our room was exceptional. The breakfast makes you wish you were staying another night and the attention to detail makes this an exceptional B & B to stay in. Would recommend to anyone, at any time, for any reason. We left feeling valued as guests and would definitely stay again if the opportunity arose. Thank you guys. 10/10 🙂

We loved everything about our stay. They were the best hosts we have ever had; so friendly, welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. The farm was beautiful, and it was so much fun getting to help out with the animals (especially the beautiful highland cows!). The breakfast was delicious and filling, setting us up for the day nicely. We couldn’t recommend this stay enough and we will definitely be coming back. Thanks again!
