Not only the 3 little pigs got to stay in a straw house. This unique luxury B&B farm stay is just over 2 hrs from Brisbane & in the middle of so many things to see and do. Stanthorpe is officially the "coolest" place in Q'ld. with lower temps, far less humidity & cool nights which makes it the perfect summer escape.
The Straw House B&B is a unique style of accommodation. The buildings are made of straw bales and stucco making them both warm in winter, cool in summer and insulated from the outside world. You can either stay in a cottage or in the Big Straw House. The Straw House BNB is set on 22 acres which you are welcome to explore. Take a walk through the apple orchard and in season sample the fruit, take a bottle of wine, a cheese platter and something to sizzle to the fire pit and make a night of it. Visit the chickens, feed and pet our two big boys, highland cattle, Aklan and Bahookie, or see what’s in season in our kitchen garden where sampling is encouraged. There is lots of room to roam and to relax. Kids and dogs are very welcome at the Straw House and undercover parking is available for all visitors.
NEW to the Straw House. Four beautiful APLACAS (Pablo, Edwardo, Diego and Nigel) recently checked in permanently to the Straw House. You are welcome to help out or just hang out with them during your stay. And we now have 2 miniature goats (the ones that don't eat plants or washing apparently - so far so good). They are two lovely ladies. We will breed from them. Their names are Pippin and Fancy Pants. They are lots of fun and are hand fed. Their favourite food in raisin toast, you are welcome to feed them!!
There is also much to do outside the gates of the Straw House. We are just a few minutes from not only some of the region’s best wineries, (favourites include Heritage Estate and The Summit) but also a stones throw from the Maze, Law Dogs, The Christmas Farm, Stanthorpe Cheese and Sutton’s Juice Factory, Cidery and Café with their award-winning products and the apple pie abound. Travel through Stanthorpe for more wineries and specialty establishments and if you desire walk it all off at one of the region's famous national parks which include Girraween, Bald Rock and Sundowner.
The Straw House & Covid 19. We are lucky that a stay at the Straw House already complies with many features that help keep you safe during your stay your given that:

Thank you so much for hosting us at The Straw House. You have done such a great job with the property and the beautiful animals. We can't compliment you highly enough on the food -- it was all amazing! We look forward to seeing you again soon (and recommending to friends in the meantime).

We had a wonderful stay with our two pups at the straw house cottage. A beautiful farm, friendly animals, gorgeous cottage that is immaculately presented with beautiful gardens and complete with big comfy bed and coffee machine!
Highlights were definitely the home baked treats on arrival and breakfast each day too - delicious, filling and varied home cooked meals! A surprise each day to wake up to. For a cosy night in Anna & Tony can also provide a 2-course dinner. Which we topped off with star gazing and roasting marshmallows around the outdoor fire.

We have just finished our second stay at Straw House and it feels like we have left family! Anna and Tony are amazing hosts and their bnb is exceptional in all aspects. Our 4 year old and 19 month old absolutely adored the chickens and alpacas, the food Anna and Tony cook is mouth watering and their warm reception makes us never want to leave! we will be coming back again and again for sure. Thoughtful amenities · Spacious. Quiet rooms.
Connie stayed in September 2020 (booked direct) What a wonderful weekend at The Straw House B&B! This was recommended to us and we were so happy with the experience, we will certainly be back. Anna and Tony, along with the ‘family’ are most welcoming, the food is amazing, the cottages perfect. We used this as our base for cycling around the area and it worked so well. See you again soon 😃
Autumn stayed in August 2020 (booked via this website) Wow!!!! Special place yes, but more importantly exceptionally very special hosts Anna and Tony. Along with all their beautiful fur babies the Straw Houses felt like coming home. The best breakfast on both days, scrumptious!!!!! The Straw Houses are on the doorstep to all the beauty the Stanthorpe region has to offer. Thank you for a special way to celebrate my belated birthday 🙂💜
Terri Dempsey-Ceh stayed in July 2020 (booked direct) We have just arrived home from a sensational 4 days staying out at The Straw House. Anna and Tony were fantastic hosts, very accommodating, hospitable and there to help with all of our needs. We will be back to spend more time at this well located property, the rooms were cosy, especially with the Sheridan sheets and bath towels, the bathrooms were filled with beautiful Washpool products and the breakfasts each morning were next level tasty! We had the pleasure of having an open fire in the big straw house and also enjoyed the company of both Anna and Tony as we all chatted and enjoy a locally made vino 🍷
And, Hugo Blonde, Stanley Brown the two beautiful house dogs were absolutely adorable and so well behaved 🙌 We also feed the hairy cows, which I have wanted to do for along time. We made some great memories out here with our close friends and fantastic hospitality from Anna and Tony 🙌
Tim stayed in July 2020 (Booking.com) “The host Anna was very accommodating and friendly. The straw house was very warm at night with no heating required after you go to bed. The bed was comfy and being vegan, were surprised by the homemade vegan cookies on arrival. The host also made us a vegan breakfast!! We got to experience patting and feeding the highland cows that live on the property and pat the owners 2 labs! The property is located approx. 10 mins from Stanthorpe town centre and about a 2.5 hour drive from Brisbane. There was plenty to do around the area also!”
Ingrid stayed in the Big Straw House in June 2020 (Facebook) What a delightful time we all had! Thank you Anna and Tony for your embracing welcome to not only Steve and I, but also my daughter and 14 month old granddaughter. I think our puppies had the best time! Whisky and Soda our labs loved the space, company of Hugo and Stanley, and your accommodation - particularly the fireplace! Breakfast was spectacular! Dinner was superb! Above all you generously recognised Steve's birthday weekend with a beautiful personal touch.
Merryn stayed in June 2020 (Tripadvisor) “Perfect gateway to the Granite Belt
We have just returned from a wonderful weekend away in Stanthorpe and surrounds, staying at The Straw House B&B. Anna and Tony could not have been more wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they were more than friendly and helpful and happy to chat. Each morning a delicious hot, home cooked breakfast was delivered to the room. The property was perfect for a wander at any time of the day or afternoon, which meant we spotted birds, rabbits and the gorgeous highland cattle, that are hand fed every afternoon with an invitation to join in. The accommodation is at the gateway to the granite belt and literally around the corner from award winning wineries and Sam's the fruit and vegetable shop. We decided to drive back to Warwick on the Old Stanthorpe Rd, which had no traffic and really lent itself to the 'Sunday country drive'. We had the most wonderful weekend away in the straw cottage, it was warm and welcoming and comfortable, with beautiful quilts and a homely feel, with the welcome treat of chocolate brownies and an eclectic range of reading materials if you came empty handed. I wish we had more time to explore the beautiful Granite Belt region, but no doubt we will be back, and we know where to stay.
Rachel stayed in June 2020 (Airbnb) “Charming private cottage-style studio bnb. You share a very thick wall so would never know others were there unless you wanted to. Anna and Tony are friendly and down to earth with a lovely property and they are good cooks! Hot breakfast is served to your cottage studio on a tray so great for people like us who prefer privacy on a couple's weekend away. Location is near the main highway but cottage walls are very thick and noise will not disturb you. Heating is via an electric fireplace but Anna and Tony are happy to light the outdoor fire pit if real flames are a must.
Cindy stayed in May 2020 (Booking.com) “Wonderful accommodating hosts. The grounds and orchard are lovely for an afternoon walk and our room was exceptional. The breakfast makes you wish you were staying another night and the attention to detail makes this an exceptional B & B to stay in. Would recommend to anyone, at any time, for any reason. We left feeling valued as guests and would definitely stay again if the opportunity arose. Thank you guys. 10/10 🙂
Karen stayed in March 2020 (Booked via this website) March 2020 On behalf of Cooper the cavoodle and myself I would to express my total delight in having the honour to spend a night at the Straw House. It was so warm and inviting and you made us feel so welcomed. The food was delicious, nothing like a home cooked meal. Cooper is still pining for the sheep doorstop but you can’t have everything. I am sure to come back with my family. Again thank you so much for your hospitality.10/10 no lie.Regards Karen
Jorrit stayed in Feb 2020 (Booking.com) Feb 2020“The hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. A last minute booking, yet the room was exceptionally clean and well equipped. They welcome you personally, are full of knowledge of the area and local restaurants (though they haven't even been running the place for more than 6 months) and offer extra services like a baby bed just out of gratuity. We've had the most pleasant stay walking around the apple orchard and a wonderful night sleep in a very comfortable bed. The breakfast deserves a special mention as it's served personally to you with no effort spared. A service bar none, the hosts really go above and beyond.”
Annie stayed in November 2019 (Airbnb) Fantastic hosts with a gorgeous Bed and Breakfast. Anna is very welcoming with an immaculately clean property, beautiful amenities and an absolutely glorious breakfast of local produce, house baked bread and even fresh eggs from the onsite chickens! The two gorgeous doggos really make the place feel like home as well. A tiny gem in Dalveen, we can't wait to visit again and spend a bit more time in the area.
Christine stayed in December 2019 (booking.com) “The owners are so welcoming I would highly recommend this stay to anyone & would definitely stay again, the breakfast was awesome the best we had on our little road trip, if your on a wine tasting trip it's the perfect location for just that. ”
Michelle stayed in December 2019 (Airbnb) We had a wonderful stay in the lovely straw house! The facilities are clean & tidy. A great coffee machine, milk in the fridge with fresh cookies when we arrived was a lovely touch. The breakfast they provided was next level good!! A smorgasbord of things to taste & snack on in the morning. Not to mention the best omelette I’ve ever had!! They were friendly & personable hosts who went the extra mile to make our stay great!
